이번주 주제는 meme에 대한것이네요.
온라인에서 SNS의 발달로 요즈음은 새로운 것들이 엄청난 속도로 널리 퍼지고 있습니다.
재미있는 영상이나 여러 사건사고, 그리고 그릇된 정보들까지 공유되다보니 문제도 많이 발생하고 있습니다.
스크립트에서 meme에 대한 설명과 사람들이 이것을 서로 공유하는 이유에 대해 이야기 하고 있네요.

Why do so many people enjoy sharing content online?

Humans are social animals. Sharing allows us to feel connected to others.
We share emotions, which allow us to deepen the bonds we have with our peers and with our friends.
We particularly like to share content that makes us feel emotional.
High arousal emotions include things like anger and anxiety, but also excitement and humour, low arousal – sadness and contentment.
It turns out that those high-arousal emotions – those emotions that fire us up and cause us to take action – also drive us to share.
Emotions like anger and anxiety tend to cause stronger feelings than sadness and contentment.
When a video we see on the internet makes us laugh – or makes us excited or angry – then we are more likely to share it with others.
And sharing that emotion with others strengthens the connection or bond between us.

스크립트를 읽고 자료를 찾던중 어느 블로그의 글을 읽고 이해에 도움이 되어서 내용을 요약해보았습니다.
‘meme’이라는 용어는 리처드 도킨스의 <이기적 유전자>에서 처음 등장했다.
meme은 다윈의 진화론과 관련한 유전자 (gene)과 대별되는 문화적 진화를 이끄는 개념이다.
그러므로 Meme은 진화를 통해 나타난 두번째 복제자이며, 사람에서 사람으로 전해지는 생각과 행동들이라고 할 수 있습니다.
우리의 육체가 유전자(Gene)로 구성되어 있다면, 우리의 정신과 영혼은 meme으로 구성되어 있다.
Meme은 마치 유전자와도 같이 변이하고 복제되며 경쟁하고 자연선택의 과정을 거쳐 살아남는다. 우리는 본능적으로 행동과 대화와 서술로써 meme을 퍼트리려고 하고,
meme은 이런 수단들을 통해 사람에서 사람으로 옮겨지고 복제되고 변형되며 경쟁한다.
우리는 마치 유전적 자손을 만들었을 때와 같이, 자신이 퍼트린 밈이 성공적으로 복제되어 자식 meme으로 정착 되었을 때. 사람들의 나의 말과 행동과 글에 동조하고 찬성하며 지지하는 행동을 취할 때 만족을 얻으며, 그렇지 못하여 사람들을 설득해야 하거나 다른 동조자를 필요로 하는 부담을 안고 있는 상황, 즉 밈의 경쟁 상태에 놓였을 때 불만족과 스트레스를 얻는다.
이러한 과정을 거친 meme은 자식 meme으로 복제되며 약간의 변형을 거친다.
그런데 그 변형이 환경적으로 생존에 부적합한 meme이라면 도태될 것이다. 지구가 구체가 아니라 평평한 평면이라고 믿는 meme은 과학화되어 누적된 수많은 증거들이 적절히 교육되어진 사회 속에서는 도태될 것이다.
meme은 마치 유전자와도 같이 행동한다. 그렇다는 것은 우리는 우리가 유전자를 가공할 때 사용하는 몇몇 방법론을 밈에게도 적용할 수 있을 것이다. 우리가 우리에게 이로운 생물학적 생산품을 얻기 위해 품종개량을 하는 것처럼, 우리는 우리가 후대에 어떤 meme을 전승하고 어떤 meme을 도태시킬지 우리가 임의로 선택 할 수 있을 것이다.
우리는 파시즘을 도태시켰다. 완전히 박멸시키지는 못했지만 우리는 경험적인 데이터를 통해 파시즘을 우리 후대에게 전승시키지 않기로 사회적으로 합의를 이루는데 성공했다. 우리는 평등과 인간의 존엄과 민주적 권리와 의무를 전승하기로 선택했다. 우리는 더 많은 것들에 대해서 성공적인 선택들을 내린 바 있고, 내 생각에 보다 더 세세하고 민감한 사항들에 대해서도 합의 할 수 있을 것이라고 본다.
우리는 본능적으로 우리의 생각을 퍼트리려고 하고, 그 생각들이 받아들여졌을 때 만족감을 얻는다. 우리가 우리의 유전적인 자손에게 애정을 가지듯이, 우리는 같은 meme을 공유하는 사람들에게 애정을 가진다. 우리의 마음과 영혼은 밈의 집합체이기 때문에, 내가 퍼트린 meme의 자식 meme을 가지는 사람은 나의 일부를 이식받은 것과 같다. 유전적 자손이 아님에도 불구하고 양자에게 친자 못지 않은 애정을 줄 수 있는 것은 바로 이 때문이라고 생각한다. 우리가 가족이라고 정의하는 사람들 간에는 일반적으로 다른 이들보다 더 많은 meme을 공유한다. 내가 나의 가족에게 퍼트리고 공유되는 밈은 내 영혼의 일부이며, 다른 사람들에 비해 내 영혼의 일부를 더 많이 이식받은 존재이기에 우리는 가족을 남들보다 더 사랑 할 수 있는 것이다.
