큐리어스 조지는 1941년 Houghton Mifflin에서 출판되어  약 80여년동안 전세계에서 사랑받는 시리즈입니다.

아프리카 탐험대인 노란모자 아저씨를 만나 대도시에 도착하게 된 조지가 겪는 에피소드들입니다.

낯선 대도시의 생활 속에서 호기심많은 조지가 이 곳 저곳을 둘러보고 살펴보고 행동하다 엉뚱한 사고를 치게 되면서 펼쳐지는 이야기입니다.

다른 시리즈들은 캐릭터가 어떤 상황에 처해져 에피소드가 진행되지만, 큐리어스 조지는 조지가 어떠한 장소에 가는 것으로 이야기가 진행됩니다. 

공간중심적인 이야기 구조는 아이들에게 공간과 장소, 위치에 대한 영어를 알려주기에도 좋습니다. 

어른들의 생각과 다르게, 자신만의 방법으로 자유롭게 놀고, 엉뚱하고 장난이 넘치는 조지에게서 아이들은 자신의 모습을 봅니다. 

혹은 아이들이 상상으로만 했던 장난들을 책 속에서 조지가 하는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.

큐리어스 조지 시리즈는 글의 양은 많지만, 단어가 쉽고 평이한 문장이라서 초등 저학년의 경우에 리더스를 대신해 읽기 연습용으로 보기 좋습니다.
