주인공 Nate는 스스로를 Nate the Great (위대한 네이트)라고 부르는 7살 꼬마탐정입니다.

바바리 코트 대신 비옷을 입고 다니며, 핫케이크를 좋아하는 네이트가 주변에서 벌어지는 소소한 사건들을 해결해 나갑니다.

추리 내용이 아주 어렵지는 않아 저학년 아이들에게 적당합니다.

네이트의 추리를 따라가면서 문제와 문제 해결 과정을 찾는 논리적인 사고 능력도 함께 배양할 수 있습니다.

책 마지막에는 Nate's Note라는 챕터가 있습니다.

네이트의 사건 노트인데, 각 권의 핵심 소재에 관한 부가 설명과 간단한 액티비티가 들어있습니다.
