Big Birthday Parties

Many children celebrate their birthday with close friends. Some of them give out big parties at nice restaurants. They give gifts. They eat delicious food. They also have fun, singing and dancing. What do you think about big birthday parties? Is it good or bad? Take a look at a talk here and think about it.

Sang-mi: Jan-di, are you going to Jun-pyo
¡¯s birthday party this Saturday? It will be at the new buffet restaurant. I have heard that it is a very big and nice restaurant. We all can have a good time together, having fun and enjoying delicious food. I really look forward to Jun-pyo¡¯s birthday party.

Jan-di: I
¡¯m not sure whether I will be going or not. I don¡¯t think it is good for us to have a big birthday party. Having a big party costs a lot of money. We don¡¯t even pay for the party. It is our parents who spend much money for the party and I don¡¯t think that is good.

Cindy: Hey, Jan-di. We have a birthday party only once a year. Just one day in a year. If we have a big party every month, that would be a problem. But just once in a year, I think it is OK.

Kathryn: Yeah, right. I like big parties because I can make friends with many classmates. We can get closer with each other. Let
¡¯s just have fun!

Hyun-joo: You must think that some of our friends can
¡¯t afford to have a big birthday party. That may make them feel sad.

Kang-min: In addition, some parents can
¡¯t afford to prepare a big birthday party for their children. They may also feel bad. I think a birthday party should not be big and expensive. What is important is wishing a happy birthday to our friends, isn¡¯t it?

Jan-di: You all have a point. Well, let
¡¯s think more about it later on.
