♣ wish의 동의어 모음
wish 소원소망을 나타냄. 그것의 가능성 여부를 따지지 않고 사용되기도 하지만,
가정법에서 쓸 경우에는 불가능한 것을 바라는 의미가 됨.
desire 강한 소원소망을 나타내는 말.
hope 실현 가능성이 있다고 생각되는 경우에만 쓰며, 불가능하다고 알고 있을 경우에는 쓰지 않음.
·He hopes to become a doctor. (능력도 자격도 있으므로) 의사가 되기를 희망한다.
want 필요가 있으므로 …하고 싶다, …을 원하다.
·I want to go. (현실적으로 필요하기 때문에) 가고 싶다.
