The Gruffalo

이솝우화같은 아주 재미있는 이야기예요.
그림도 아주 귀엽답니다. 동물들 하나하나의 표정이 아주 볼만하지요.
라임과 노래 그리고 연극까지 오디오 구성도 아주 잘 되어 있습니다.

영어모임에서 짝수달마다 아이들에게 인형극을 보여주기로 하였어요.
gruffalo는 그 두번째 인형극이었어요. 인기 대 폭발이었죠.
오디오 테이프에 나와 있는 대본에 책에 있는 대사를 더 첨가해서
각자 맡은 역할을 외워와서 아이들에게 보여주었어요.

다 끝난 다음에는 아이들이 하나씩 동물들을 맡아서 인형극을 해 보았습니다.
배경은 책에 나오는 장면들을 한 장(달력을 두장 이어 붙였어요.)에 그려서 하였습니다.
스캔 한 것이 없어져서 디지탈 카메라로 다시 찍은 동물들을 프린트해서 사용하였어요.

Look, a fox is coming out of the underground house.
봐, 여우가 땅밑 집에서 나오고 있어.

여우의 날카로운 눈을 보니까, 여우가 쥐를 먹고 싶어하는 것 같구나.
Do you know what a Gruffalo is?
너 그러팔로가 뭔지 아니?
I don't know, either.
나도 몰라.

쥐가 뭐라고 말하는지 들어보자.

Wow, the Gruffalo is very scary.
와, 그러팔로는 정말 무섭구나.
The fox is running away.
여우가 도망가고 있어.
He must be scared to be eaten by the Gruffalo.
그러팔로에게 잡아먹힐까봐 겁이 났나봐.
I see, the mouse played a joke on the fox.
알겠다. 쥐가 여우를 놀린거구나.
Phew! There's no such thing as a Gruffalo in the world.
휴, 다행이다. 세상에 그러팔로 같은 것은 없구나.
We don't need to be afraid.
무서워 할 필요가 없네.

The mouse continues taking a stroll.
쥐가 산책을 계속하네.
He is crossing the stream over the log bridge.
통나무 다리를 넘어 개울을 건너가고 있네.
A blue bird is resting on the branch and a dragonfly is flying above the ground.
파란색 새가 가지에서 쉬고 있고, 잠자리는 땅위를 날고 있어.
Look, An owl is flying and coming over from his treetop house.
봐, 올빼미 한마리가 나무위 집에서 날아 오고 있어.
He seems to want to eat the mouse, too.
올빼미도 쥐를 먹고 싶어 하는 것 같아.
The mouse is talking about Gruffalo to trick him.
쥐는 올빼미를 속이려고 그러팔로에 대한 이야기를 하고 있어.

Wow, the Gruffalo would be very scary if it existed, wouldn't it?
와, 그러팔로가 존재한다면 굉장히 무섭겠다. 그지?
It's funny. The mouse said the Gruffalo likes owl icecream.
재미있다. 그러팔로가 올빼미 아이스크림을 좋아한대.
After hearing the story about the Gruffalo, the owl is flying away.
그러팔로 이야기를 듣고 나서 올빼미가 날아가 버리고 있어.
He must be scared.
무서운가봐.
The mouse is so smart.
쥐가 참 영리하다.

He continues taking a stroll again.
다시 산책을 계속하네.
Wow, it's a lake.
호수다.
Frogs are playing in this lake.
개구리들이 호수에서 놀고 있어.
See? There are mushrooms under the trunk.
봐. 나무 기둥 아래 버섯이 있네.
They are white.
흰색이야.
Look, a snake is coming out of his logpile house.
봐, 뱀 한마리가 통나무 더미 집에서 나오고 있어.
It looks like he wants to eat the mouse.
쥐를 먹고 싶어하는 것 같아.
But the smart mouse is starting to talk about the Gruffalo to trick him, too.
하지만 영리한 쥐는 뱀을 속이기 위해 또 그러팔로에 대한 이야기를 시작하고 있어.

Wow, the Gruffalo would be terrible if it existed.
와, 그러팔로가 정말 있다면 무시무시하겠다.
Hahaha, it says his favorite food is scrambled snake.
하하하, 그러팔로가 좋아하는 음식이 뱀 스크램블이래. 재미있다.
The snake is hiding in his house.
뱀이 자기 집으로 숨고 있어.
The mouse tricked him.
쥐가 뱀을 속인거야.

Oh, dear. What's this?
이런, 이게 뭐야?
Look at these terrible claws and teeth.
이 무시무시한 발톱과 이빨들을 봐.
It's the very Gruffalo the mouse talked about.
쥐가 말한 바로 그 그러팔로야.
I think there's no such thing as a Gruffalo in the world.
그러팔로 같은 건 세상에 없다고 생각했는데.

The Gruffalo wants to eat the mouse.
그러팔로가 쥐를 먹고 싶어해.
The mouse is in trouble.
쥐가 곤경에 빠졌네.
What will he do?
어떻게 해야 할까?
Is Everyone afraid of the mouse? No way.
모두가 쥐를 무서워할까? 천만에.
It looks like the mouse will trick the Gruffalo.
쥐가 그러팔로는 속이려는 것 같아.
Will it be successful?
과연 잘 될까?
The Gruffalo is following after the mouse to see if the mouse's saying is true.
그러팔로가 쥐가 한 말이 맞는지 확인하려고 쥐의 뒤를 따라가고 있어.
I wish the mouse good luck.
쥐에게 행운이 있기를...

뱀이 틀림없어.

The snake is surprised to see the Gruffalo standing behind the mouse.
뱀이 쥐 뒤에 서 있는 그러팔로를 보고는 놀랐어.
He seems to remember what the mouse said about the Gruffalo.
뱀은 쥐가 그러팔로에 대해 말했던 것이 생각났나봐.
He must be scared to be eaten by the Gruffalo.
그러팔로에게 잡아 먹힐까봐 겁이 난거야.
I guess the Gruffalo doesn't know why the snake slid off.
내 생각엔 그러팔로는 뱀이 왜 달아났는지 모르나봐.
You know, the snake slid off because of the Gruffalo not the mouse.
너도 알다시피 뱀은 쥐가 아니라 그러팔로 때문에 달아난 건데 말이야.

아, 올빼미일꺼야.

To tell the truth, the owl flew off because of the Gruffalo, not the mouse.
사실, 올빼미는 쥐가 아니라 그러팔로는 보고 도망간 건데.

여우인가 봐.

The fox is ran off to his house as soon as he saw the Gruffalo.
여우는 그러팔로를 보자마자 자기 집으로 도망가고 있어.

그러팔로에게 잡아 먹힐까봐 겁이 난거야.
The Gruffalo seems to think that everyone is afraid of the mouse.
그러팔로는 모두가 쥐를 무서워 한다고 생각하는 것 같아.
He is fleeing quickly.
재빠르게 도망가고 있어.
I think he's so silly.
정말 어리석은 것 같구나.

This mouse kept away from danger because of his intelligence.
이 쥐는 영리함때문에 위험에서 벗어날수 있었구나.
He is sitting on a rock and having a yummy nut in a peaceful wood.
평화로운 숲속에서 바위에 앉아 맛있는 나무열매를 먹고 있네.
