A convenience store is a small store or shop. You can buy different kinds of items such as ice cream, snacks, and soft drinks. There are also newspapers and magazines, along with a variety of food items.

In 1927, the Southland Ice Company opened the first chain convenience store in Dallas, Texas. This later became what is now ¡°7-Eleven.¡±

J.J. Lawson, a dairy owner opened a store to sell his milk in 1939. The Lawson¡¯s Milk Company grew to a chain of stores called ¡°Lawson.¡± ¡°Circle K,¡± another large convenience store chain, was founded in 1951.

The first convenience store in Korea opened in 1989. Today, you can see 24-hour-open convenience stores almost everywhere in Seoul and other big cities in Korea.
