It was Christmas Eve. There were decorations on all the houses on Christmas Avenue.
House number 3154 was the loudest. The people there were having a huge celebration. Their next-door neighbor, 3159, was celebrating Hanukkah. 3154's other next-door neighbor, 3149, had a reindeer painted on their roof. House number 3162 had the best-decorated tree, but house number 3175's tree had the most ornaments. 3141's house was covered with poinsettias. Number 3098's house was having a Yule ball. 2716 had French people, and they had a giant creche outside their door (Nativity Scene).
Some kids were caroling outside. A group of five kids were caroling just outside 3154. Their names were; Mary Christmas, Happy Christmas, Havanise(Have a nice) Holiday, Lotsa (Lots of) Presents, and Gottalove Presents. (Odd names, eh?) They looked through windows and saw people kissing under mistletoes, shoving cranberries into their mouths, and having fun. Soon they got tired so they walked over to a bench and sat down.
"I'm hungry!" said Gottalove, the youngest.
"I'm thirsty!" said Lotsa, the second youngest.
"I'm tired!" said Havanise, third youngest and third oldest.
"I'm hungry, thirsty, and tired!" complained Happy, second oldest.
"Me, too!" yelled the three youngest in unison.
"All right! All right! Stop complaining!" shouted Mary, the oldest, "There's a corner store nearby. I've got 10 bucks. Let's go over and buy the stuff that'll make you happy."
"What?" asked Happy.
"What do you mean, 'what?'" asked Mary.
" I heard my name!" replied Happy.
"So?" Mary said grumpily.
"Never mind," mumbled Happy.
In two minutes, they were inside the Corner Store. Mary asked the younger kids what they wanted to get, and how much it was. It only took her a minute to find out that someone was missing.
"Gottalove, what do you want to get? Gottalove?..GOTTALOVE!" she said, "Lotsa, your brother is missing!"
Lotsa started to cry.
"Oh no! Um, Happy, can you help me out here?"
Mary exclaimed, worried.
"Sure! Uh..what do I do?" Happy asked.
"Um..try and get these kids to be quiet," Mary replied.
Soon, Happy had shushed the kids.
"Ok, guys!" Mary said to the younger ones, "We'll have to split up to find Gottalove."
A couple of kids groaned. They went outside. There were two blocks to search. Mary and Lotsa paired up, and Happy and Havanise were together.
They searched in the parks, looked up trees, look down chimneys, and went into outhouses.
Soon, they found each other, after they's searched.
"Did you find him?" asked Mary.
"No," said Happy.
"We're going to have to knock on doors, if we have to, to find him," said Mary.
"Meet you back here?" asked Happy.
"Sure," replied Mary.
So they split once more. They went from house to house, asking if they'd seen Gottalove, but nobody had seen him. They 'accidently' met at 3154.
"What are you doing here?" asked Happy.
" I don't know! What are YOU doing here?" asked Mary.
"I don't...Sorry. Let's just knock," Happy said. So they knocked. Guess who opened the door.
"GOTTALOVE!" they all yelled in unison, "What are you doing here?"
Gottalove munched on a cookie.
"U'm marding wi my fwends," he said with a mouthful of cookies.
"What?" asked Havanise.
Gottalove finished chewing and swallowed.
"I'm partying with my friends," he repeated.
"You're not allowed here. Mom said so, " Lotsa said.
"We have to go home!" exclaimed Mary.
They grabbed his arm and dragged him home.
His mother was very glad to see them all. She invited them to sleep over. They said sure.
"I asked your mothers if you could sleep over, and they said 'yes' and brought your stuff here," said Mrs. Presents.
They grabbed their stuff and went upstairs.
"I'm making a resolution," said Gottalove,
"What is it?" the children asked.
"I'm not going to go somewhere without asking my leader, ever again," he exclaimed.
The other children clapped.
That night, the children waited for Santa Claus with anticipation.
And that was the best Christmas Eve at Christmas Avenue, ever.
