그래서, 첫발견의 벌에 대해 알아 보았어요

M; All right.
A bee is one of man's insect helpers.
(벌은 사람에게 이로운 곤충중 하나란다.)
It uses its wings and legs to bring pollen from one
plant to another so that their life cycles can be completd.(꿀벌은 날개와 다리를 이용해서 꽃가루를 이 식물에서 저 식물로 옮겨주며 식물이 계속 번식 할 수 있도록 도와준단다.)
Look at this.
A bee is behind the flower.(꽃 속에 벌이 있네)
What is this bee doing?(벌이 뭘 하고 있지?

The bee is eating nectar .(꽃의 꿀을 먹고 있어요)
I want to eat it.
Hi, Miss bee.
Nice to meet to you.
Can I have some honey.(꿀 좀 줄래?)
M; I am a bee.
I will give you honey.
Here you are (가짜로 주는 시늉을 한다)
C; Thank you.
M; You're welcome.
C; Um... It's nicely sweet.(음 너무 맛있다.)
****놀이법****
넘 간단하답니다.
아이가 꿀벌이 되거나 , 엄마가 꿀벌이 되어서,
누구를 쏠까 하면서, 손가락을 이용한 벌침 놀이를 한답니다.
c; I am a bumblebee(전 땡벌이랍니다.)
I will sting mom.(전 엄마를 쏠거에요)
M; Oh., NO..I hate you. Run away.(막 도망을 갑니다.)
C; I will sting mom..(계속 아이가 쫓아옵니다.)
M; Ouch. A bee stung me on the arm.(벌이 내 팔을 쏘았다)
계속 A bee stung me on the arm.. 이라면서 소리를 지르며 아픈 시늉을 한답니다.
다시 아이와 역할을 바꿔서 해도 재미가 있더군요.
그럼 본문내용을 보면 다음과 같답니다.
What is that bee doing behind the flower?
벌이 꽃속에서 무얼 할까?
Here are the members of the bee family.
여기에 벌 식구 멤버들이 다 있네.
Worker bee 일벌
Queen 여왕벌
Drone 수펄
It is feeding on nectar and collecting pollen to make honey. 꿀을 만들기 위해, 꽃의 꿀과 꽃가루를 모으고 있네.
Some bees creat a kind of glue, called propolis from plant gums and resins.( 어떤 벌들은, 나무의 진과 송진으로 부터 propolis라고 불리는 아교의 종류를 만들기도 한단다.)
They use it to seal cracks in the walls of their beehive.벌들은 아교를 벌집의 벽틈에 바른단다.
Look closely at the head of a bee.
벌 머리를 가까이 봐봐.( 우리 아인 꼭 괴물같다고 한답니다.)
It sees, moves around, and communicates with other bees by using its eyes, which are on opposite sides of its head, and its antennae.머리 반대편쪽에 위치한 눈과 더듬이를 이용해서, 다른 벌들과 의사소통을 하고 주위를 움직이고 본단다.
The antennae allow them to recoginze the scent of other bees. 더듬이는 다른 벌들의 냄새를 알아본단다.
When the bee has found a field of flowers, it figures out where it is by comparing the distance between sun and its beehive..벌이 꽃이 있는 들판을 발견했을때, 해와 벌집사이의 거리를 비교해서 그 위치거리를 예측한다.
(이건, 거리가 몇 미터 떨어져 있는가에 따라서, 친구 벌에게 알리는 방법이 다르기 때문에 벌들은 반드시 계산을 한단다)
By flying in circles , it signals to other bees the direction and the distance to the flowers it has found.
꽃을 발견하면 , 거리와 방향을 원 방향에 따라서 다른 벌에게 신호를 한단다.(즉 거리가 가까우면, 원을 그리며 춤을 추고,
좀 더 멀면, 8자를 그리며 춤을 춘다고 하네.)
책을 보면 춤추는 방향이 그려져 있답니다.
In order to eat , bees leave the beehive in search of nectar and pollen.( 꽃의 벌과 꽃가루를 찾아서 , 벌집에서 떠난단다.
Then they return to hives like the wooden one here.
그리고 나서 벌들은 여기 나무처럼 보이는 벌집으로 돌아온단다.
The younest bees do the housecleaning, stock up the food, feed the larvae, and keep an eye on the front door.
젊은 벌들은 집청소를 하고 먹이를 저장하고 유충들에게 먹이를 주고, 벌집앞을 지킨단다.
.By flapping their wings, the bees keep the air in their beehive cool. 날개를 퍼득거려서, 벌들은 벌집을 시원하게 유지한다.
How is the beehive made? 어떻게 집을 만들까?
The bee eats honey...and its body turns it into wax.
벌이 꿀을 먹고 , 그리고 몸에서, 밀랍으로 변한다.
It pulls the wax out of its abdomen with its feet.
발로 배 밖으로 밀랍을 밀어낸다.
The worker bees make wax scales, which they chew and soften with their jaws.
일벌들은 턱으로 씹어서 부드럽게 해서 밀랍껍질로 만든다.
Then they stick them together to make the cells you see here.그리고 나서, 너가 보는것 처럼 밀랍으로 세포모양처럼 만들어서 서로 서로 붙인단다.
when the queen goes on a mating flight, hundreds of drones pursue her. 여왕벌이 짝짓기를 하기 위해 날아오르면, 수백마리의 수펄들이 따라서 날아온다.
she chooses about ten drones to mate with.
여왕벌은 그 중에서 골라서, 짝짓기를 한다.
Then the queen enters the hive to lay her eggs.
그리고 나서 벌집에서 알을 낳는다.
Workers surround the queen as she lays one egg in each cell.
주위에 일벌들이 있으면, 여왕벌은 각 세포에다 알 하나씩 낳는다.
She can lay over 1,000eggs a day!여왕벌은 하루에 1000리의 알을 낳는다.
After eight days, the worker bees close the cells with a wax cover.8일후에 일벌들은 밀랍으로 된 뚜껑으로 세포를 덮어 버린다.
1st day 3rd day, 9th day, 10th day, 19th day, 21st day.
일일 3일, .......21일 (9일이 되면 애벌레로 되고, 점점 시간에 따라서, 유충에서 성충으로 되어 가는 그림이 나와 있어요)
When the young bee emerges from its cell, a worker bee gives it nectar to drink.
유충이 세포에서 나오면 일벌은 마실 꿀을 준다.
The queen, thousnads of workers, and some drones fly out of the hive.여왕은 수천마리의 일벌과 조금의 수펄을 데리고 벌집에서 나와서 날아간다.
This is called swarming..이걸 분봉(따로 나기) 이라 해.
What happens when there is no more room in the beehive?
벌집안에 더 이상 방이 없을땐 무슨 일이 일어날까?
The swarm gather together and flies to a nearby branch to wait while scout bees search for a new home.
벌떼들은 새로운 집을 찾기 위해서, 가까운 나무 가지위에서, 벌이 모여 들때 까지 기다린다.
A couple of days later the bees are settled in their new hive.이틀 후에 새로운 벌집 안에서 정착한다.
Beehives can take differnet forms.벌집은 다른 형태로 만들수 도 있단다.
Here are some of the tools of a beekeeper.여기 벌치는 사람의 연장이 있네.

AT the end of the summer the beekeeper takes a frame full of honey from the beehive..여름이 끝날무렵에 벌치기는 벌집에서 꿀로 가득한 틀을 꺼낸다.
Then with his knife, he scrapes the honey off the comb.
그리고 나서 칼로, 문질러 꿀을 분리시킨다.
Each honey tastes slightly different, depending on which flowers the nectar came from.
꿀마다 꽃 종류에 따라서, 맛이 조금씩 차이가 난다.
Winter has come and the bees slow down and rest, or hibenate, inside their hive.겨울이 다가오면 벌집에서 쉬거나 , 동면을 한다.
The bees cluster and keep close to their queen.벌들은 떼를 지어서 여왕벌 를 지켜 준단다.
They feed themselves with the honey that they stored during the summer.벌들은 여름동안 모아둔 꿀들을 먹는다.

South American wasp nest made from vegetable fibers that have been flattened down into a paste.남아메리카의 말벌의 집은 야채의 섬유질로 만들었는데 아래로 쭉 늘어지게 만들어 져 있다.( 책에서 보면 넘 환상적으로 만들어 있답니다.)
One of the most unbelievable insect-made buildings is the termite mound.가장 믿을 수 없는 것 중의 하나인 것은 바로 흰개미가 만든 집이다.
It is built out of soil and saliva.그건 흙과 타액으로 만들어 져 있다.
