이 내용이 답이 될지는 모르겠지만 일단 학년을 높혀서 아이를 학교에 넣는 것은 심각하게 고려해 보셔야 할겁니다. 초등학교라도 각각의 주 와 학교 또는 학교장에 따라서 공부하는 내용이 정말 천차 만별입니다.
명문 사립의 경우 공부는 정말 살인적입니다.
특히 조별로 나뉘어서 수업을 하고 숙제를 해 내고 하는 과정들을 거쳐야 하는데 영어에 문제가 있는 아이들은 바보 취급을 당하면서 학급에서 이런 표현은 죄송하지만 왕따를 당합니다. 특히 학교에 ESL Class 가 없거나 이중언어 선생님이 안계시면 힘든경우도 많이 있습니다.미국아이들 상당히 이기적인면이 많습니다. 자기가 손해 본다고 생각하면 아이들이 잔인해 지기 까지 하지요. 큰 아이들은 우리가 생각하는 상상 이상의 면들도 많다고 보시면 됩니다.
혹시 T.V에 보면 미국 프로들이 가끔씩 나오는데 우리들은 그네들의 행동양식에 대해 도저히 이해 할 수 없는 부분들이 많이 있습니다.
문화적인 충격같은 것들인데요... 너무나 많은 부분들이어서 설명하기는 쉽지 않습니다.
아래의 내용은 다른 싸이트에 있는 내용을 가져 온것입니다. 제가 텍사스 교육청 홈페이지를 보니 이 내용과 비슷하구요, 친절하게 해석까지 되어 있어서 그냥 이내용을 올리려고 합니다.
서점에 가시면 여러가지의 미국교과서들이 있는데요, 중학생용 교과서는 없지만 초등 6학년용 각각의 출판사 4곳의 미국초등교과서를 이내용과 비교해 보시면 이해가 빠르실 걸로 봅니다.
가장 문제가 되는 것은 Writing 인데요, 저번에 집토끼님이 올려 놓으신 4학년 쓰기의 주제와 내용을 보시면 도움이 되실겁니다.
그리고 집에서 도와줘야할 숙제가 정말 장난이 아닙니다. 오죽하면 미국 한인 사회에 학원이 정말 많은데 숙제를 전문으로 돌봐주는 학원이 있겠습니다. 픽업 써비스에 아이들 간식먹여서 집까지 데려다주는 한국의 학원과 같은 곳이 많이 있지요. 이젠 SAT Test 도 너무 많이 바뀌기 때문에 이런 전문 입시학원도 타격이 많을 거예요.
