Children¡¯s Day in Korea was made by Bang Jeong-hwan. He was a children¡¯s story book writer. He even created the word ¡®Eorini (¾î¸°ÀÌ),¡¯ a word meaning a child.
Bang wrote a letter called ¡®An Open Letter to Adults¡¯ on May 1, 1923. In the letter, he said children are the future of the nation. He asked adults to show respect for children.
That is the origin of Children¡¯s Day in Korea. It was originally celebrated on May 1. But it was later moved to May 5. Since 1975, it has been an official holiday.
Today, Children¡¯s Day is celebrated like Christmas for many children. It is perhaps the most favorite day of the year for children. Children receive gifts. They go to amusement parks, baseball stadiums, movie houses and many other places with their parents and have fun. They also enjoy the day with delicious food.
May you all have a wonderful Children¡¯s Day next month!
