short updates on Korea TESOL happenings, and provides information on other matters of
interest to teachers of English in Korea. The KOTESOL mailing list, including your email

Conference Proposal Submission Deadline Extended!

Conference Co-Chair and Program Chief Craig Bartlett announced on Tuesday, May 15
that the Conference Program Committee would extend the deadline for submission of
proposals for presentations at the International Conference to May 22. Find the Call for

Teacher Development Special Interest Group -- TD-SIG
First Meeting Saturday, June 9th
The first meeting of the TD-SIG will take place at Hannam University in Daejeon at 1pm
on Saturday, June 9th. New members are welcome to join us, so please spread the
word. The agenda for the meeting has not yet been determined and it will depend on the

Speakers Tour comes to Korea
Teachers interested in providing more effective
listening and speaking lessons for their students will
certainly find much of interest in this presentation.
Jack C. Richards, a leading applied linguist and
teacher educator, will provide insight into the nature
of speaking skills and the core components of
conversational management strategies. Principles
for an effective conversation class will also be
presented. These will be illustrated with examples
from Springboard, New Person to Person, Tactics
for Listening, and Listen for It. Professor Richards in
currently professor of applied linguistics at the
Regional Language Center, Singapore, and has held
senior positions in universities in Hong Kong, New
Zealand, and the USA.

Position Announcement
Oxford University Press Korea is seeking candidates for the
position of ELT Consultant / Teacher Trainer. This is an exiting
opportunity for someone who would like to build on his or her
language teaching experience, and work in Sales and Marketing.
Job Requirements include: making regular school visit to promote Oxford material,
planning and delivering Sales and Marketing presentations for large and small groups,
staying up to date with both Oxford materials and current trends in language teaching
practice, and willingness to travel extensively throughout Korea.
Desired Qualifications:
- MA TESOL
- Experience working with Children and Adults
- Teacher Training Experience
Also, applicants should prepare to give a 20-minute presentation at the time of the
interview. This should focus on the features and benefits of a particular Oxford title, and
should combine a limited amount of theory with practical ideas for classroom teachers.
