Smartphone Market Gets Hot
Since mobile phone, usually called cellphone in the U.S., was introduced, its hardware and software have developed very rapidly, bringing various ultramodern mobile techs in the markets. Smartphone is a mobile phone with computer features that enable it to interact with computerized systems, send e-mails, and access the web.
iPhone designed and marketed by Apple Inc. was originally released in 2007. It is another type of smartphone with multiple functions of Internet and multimedia comprising text messaging, visual voicemail, portable media player, web-browsing and Wi-Fi connectivity. Its user interface is built with multi-touch screen including a virtual keyboard rather than a physical one and its application functions include games, references, GPS navigation, social networking, TV shows, films and celebrities.
In July 2008, the iPhone 3G was released with faster 3G data speed with 3.6 Mbps and later, iPhone 3GS with improved performance of camera with higher resolution, video capability, voice control, and data speed of 7.2 Mbps. On June 7, 2010, the most-updated iPhone 4 was released by Steve Jobs, taking the lion¡¯s share of the mobile phone market in the world.
To compete with iPhone distributed by Apple Inc, Samsung Electronics unveiled its new model cellphone Galaxy S hours after iPhone 4 was introduced in the U.S., joining teamwork with the giant portal server Google and SK. The Galaxy has a ¡°Super AMOLED¡± screen that makes the gadget more power-efficient with sharper pictures on the screen and with its 1GHz processor, it provides an improved touch-screen effect.
The Android coalitions powered by Google and supported by Samsung, LG Electronics, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, HTC of Taiwan and Pantech are expected to hit a hard blow upon the exploding iPhone market. A spokesman of KT, Korean partner of Apple Inc., said it has sold nearly 750,000 3G iPhones already since its debut in November last year.
