Chapter 6 엠마, 패트릭에게 빠지다.
Emma Falls for Patrick.
An Indian girl and chorus sing and dance excitedly. The crowd sings along. Mr. Bollenbecker, loving every minute of the party, is shown dancing widly.
An Indian girl sings in an Indian language. The crowd sings along to the chorus. Deep grabs a microphone and joins in. Ajay shakes his head in embarrassment as Deep sings and dances like a wild man. Others in the crowd raise their hands and clap.
Deep sings a song in an Indian language and points the microphone at Sunny, who begins to sing.
Deep points the microphone to the crowd, prompting them to sing. Mr. and Mrs. Bollenbecker are shown dancing and singing in an Indian language.
Emma and Patrick are dancing together. Emma, imitating the Indian style she saw earlier, is letting loose and really having a good time.
EMMA : (laughs) Did I happen to say thank you?
PATRICK : You did, and you’re welcome.
Emma suddenly gets serious as she realize her true feelings for Patrick.
EMMA : You’re not the person I thought you were, Patrick Sullivan.
As Patrick draws near Emma, she prepares herself for a kiss. Her guilty conscience gets the best of her and she pulls away at the last minute. Patrick looks at her sadly as she leaves the party.
PATRICK : Likewise, Doctor Lloyd.
EMMA : I can’t. I have to go.
Emma walks outside of the party. She feels torn up inside and doesn’t know what to do next. Feeling upset, she calls her father, hoping to spend the night at his house.
한 인도 소녀와 합창단이 노래하며 춤을 춘다. 모인 사람들이 따라 노래 부른다. 파티를 즐기던 볼렌베커 씨도 신나게 춤을 춘다.
한 인도 소녀가 인도어로 노래를 부르자 손님들이 함께 합창한다.
딥이 마이크 앞에 선다. 딥이 거칠게 춤추며 노래하자 에이제이는 부끄러움에 머리를 흔든다. 모인 사람들도 손을 흔들고 박수를 친다.
딥이 인도어로 노래한다.
딥이 서니에게 마이크를 주자 그녀가 노래를 시작한다.
딥이 마이크를 모인 사람들을 향하게 하며 노래를 부르라고 한다. 볼렌베커 부부도 인도어로 노래하고 춤을 춘다.
엠마와 패트릭이 함께 춤을 추고 있다. 엠마는 조금 전에 보았던 인도 스타일을 흉내내며 점차 긴장이 풀리고 즐거운 시간을 보내고 있다.
엠마 : (웃는다)제가 혹시 고맙다고 말했던가요?
패트릭 : 네, 그랬죠, 괜찮아요.
엠메가 갑자기 패트릭에 대한 자기의 진심을 알아차리곤 심각해진다.
엠마 : 패트릭 설리번씨, 당신은 제가 생각했던 그런 사람이 아니군요.
패트릭이 엠마에게 다가가자 엠마는 그의 키스를 받아들이려 한다. 엠마가 거의 키스하려 하다 가책을 느끼고 물러선다. 패트릭이 파티장을 떠나는 엠마를 쓸쓸히 바라본다.
패트릭 : 나도 마찬가지요, 로디으 박사.
엠마 : 안 돼요. 가야겠어요.
엠마가 파티장 밖으로 걸어나온다. 가슴이 메어질 듯 아파하며 앞으로 어떻게 해야 할지 난감하다. 아버지 집에서 하룻밤을 보내려고 전화를 건다.
like wild man 미친 듯이, 자제하지 못하고
prompt ~에게 행동을 재촉하다.
