ORT를 사서 시작한지 1년이 좀 지난 맘입니다. ORT는 다른 테입에 비해 Extended Stories가 녹음되어 있어 스토리텔링의 원조라 할 수 있습니다. 다른 테입은 읽어주는 것만 나와서 스토리 전개를 만들 수가 없어 늘 고민이 많았는데 ORT는 각 페이지의 확장적인 질문과 상황을 설명하고 있어 아이에게 다양한 문화를 전달하고 지식을 넓혀주는 것이 가장 큰 특징인 것 같아요. 그리고 엄마가 미리 Extended Stories를 읽고 나서 정리하여 읽어주면 더 흥미진진하답니다. 전 ORT를 쑥쑥공구에서 그리고 인북스에서도 샀답니다. 쑥쑥 맘님들이 많이 궁금해 하는 것 같아 인북스에 나와 있는 아래 활용문을 퍼왔습니다. 물론 인북스에서도 이해 하겠지요!
첨에는 전부 영어로 나와 놀라겠지만 Extended Stories 번역을 보면 한결 마음이 놓이고 그 의미를 알게 될 겁니다. 그리고 오디오테입을 간간이 틀어놓고 가족 모두가 들어나가면 익숙해지고 왜 이런 컨텐츠가 필요한지 알게 되겠죠! 쑥쑥맘님 화이팅~

Kipper wanted a paty. He spent a long time getting it already. He set up his little table in the kitchen and he laid it with all his toy cups and saucers. The table looked a bit bare so he found two plastic beakers and he put them on the table too. Then he borrowed some little spoons from the kitchen drawer. Last of all he put a plastic tub of sweets in the middle of the table. ' Who sahll I ask to my patry ? ' he wondered.
' Perhaps I'll ask Biff and Chip, and perhaps I'll ask Mum and Dad'
키퍼는 파티를 열고자 합니다. 그는 그 준비를 위해서 오랫동안 준비를 했습니다. 부엌에는 작은 탁상을 놓고 가지고 있는 모든 장난감 컵과 컵 받침 접시들을 놓습니다. 탁상이 다소 초라해 보여서, 키퍼 두 개의 플라스틱 컵을 찾아 탁상 위에 놓습니다. 그리고 나서 부엌의 서랍장에서 작은 숟가락 몇 개를 가져왔습니다. 마지막으로 과자가 담긴 플라스틱 통을 탁상 가운데에 놓습니다.

But nobody wanted to come.
When he asked Biff and Chip they said , ' Sorry, we're going out to play.
' When he asked Mum she said, ' Dad and I are going to wash the car.'
That was the trouble. Nobody wanted to come.
그러나 아무도 오고 싶어하지를 않습니다. 비프와 칩은 ‘미안해, 우리는 밖에 나가서 놀꺼야’라고 대답을 했습니다.

He went upstairs and He got his toys. He brought them down to the kitchen and sat them on the floor.Kipper had lots of toys because he was the youngest and when Biff and Chip grew too old for their toys, they gave them to Kipper.
'At least my toys won't say they can't come to my patry.' thought Kipper to himself.
키퍼는 위층으로 올라가 장난감들을 집습니다. 그리고 장난감을 부엌으로 가지고 내려와 바닥에 앉힙니다.
키퍼는 장난감이 아주 많습니다. 키퍼는 막내이고, 비프와 칩은 장난감을 가지고 놀기에는 너무 커버려서 키퍼에게 장난감들을 주었기 때문이지요.

When all the toys were sitting in a circle,Kipper thought, ' This isn't like a proper party.'
He remembered all the good things there had been to eat at Biff and Chip's party. Most of all he remembered the cake. And that's what Kipper thought he wanted for his party.
He wanted a cake.
모든 장난감들을 둥그렇게 앉혀 놓고, 키퍼는 ‘이건 내가 생각했던 파티가 아니야’ 하고 생각했습니다.

Kipper looked in the cupboard and found a large box of cornflakes. He didn't think that Mum or Dad would be cross if he had some for his toys' party.
When Kipper tried to pour the cornflakes, they came out with a rush and went all over the table and on the floor.
' Cornflakes are a bit dry all by themselves,' he thought.
' Maybe if I mix them up with some tomato sauce it would be better.' So he put in cornflakes and he put in tomato sauce.
키퍼는 찬장 안을 들여다보고 큰 상자에 든 콘플레이크를 찾았습니다. 키퍼는 키퍼의 장난감들의 파티를 위해 약간의 콘플레이크를 써버려도 엄마와 아빠가 언짢아하실 것이라고 생각하지 않았습니다.
키퍼가 콘플레이크를 따르려고 할 때, 그만 너무 많이 나와서 탁상과 바닥 사방에 쏟아져 버렸습니다.
‘콘플레이크는 원래 물기가 조금 부족해,’ ‘그러니까 어쩌면 토마토 소스를 약간 섞으면 훨씬 나아질지도 몰라.’ 라고 키퍼는 생각했습니다. 그래서 키퍼는 콘플레이크를 따르고 토마토 소스를 따랐습니다.

Kipper thought that the mixture still looked rather dry,so he took some milk from the fridge and poured a little into the bowl.
Then he saw a pot of strawberry jam on one of the shelves in the cupboard. ' I'll put in some jam,' he thought .
So he put in milk, he put in jam, and he mixed it all together.
키퍼는 토마토 소스를 넣어도 아직 물기가 부족하다고 생각했습니다. 그래서 냉장고에서 우유를 꺼내어 그릇에 붓습니다.
그리고 키퍼는 찬장 선반에서 딸기잼 병을 발견했습니다. ‘잼도 조금 넣어야겠다,’ 키퍼는 생각했습니다.

There were some baked beans in the fridge. They were in little plastic tub because some had been left over from the day before. ' I'll bet the toys would like some baked beans.' thought Kipper looking at his mixture.
By now he was enjoying himself so much that when he saw a packet of sugar in the cupboard, he couldn't help stirring in some of that as well.
' I'll put in some sugar,' he said. ' Toys like things to be sweet.'
So he put in sugar, he put in baked beans. Then he mixed them up with the milk and jam, the cornflakes, and the tomato sauce.
냉장고 안에는 삶은 콩이 약간 있었습니다. 전날 먹다 남은 것들이 남았었기 때문에 삶은 콩은 작은 플라스틱 통에 들어있었습니다. ‘장난감들이 삶은 콩도 좋아할꺼야,’ 라고 그의 케이크를 보면서 키퍼는 생각했습니다.
키퍼는 케이크 만드는 일에 너무 많이 집중해 있었기 때문에, 찬장에서 설탕 봉지를 발견하자 설탕도 붓지 않을 수가 없었습니다.
‘설탕도 약간 넣어야해,’ 키퍼가 중얼거렸습니다. ‘장난감들은 단 것을 좋아해.’ 그래서 키퍼는 설탕을 넣고 삶은 콩을 넣습니다. 그리고 키퍼는 우유와 잼, 콘플레이크, 그리고 토마토 소스와 함께 이것을 잘 섞습니다.

When everything was well mixed in, Kipper pretended to feed the mixture to some of his toys.It's not easy to give a mixture fo cornflakes, tomato sauce, milk , jam, sugar, and baked beans to some toys. Especially when you use a plastic spoon!
At that moment , Mum came into the kitchen.
When she saw the mess, you can guess what she said.
Mum was cross. she was very, very cross.
모든게 잘 섞여지고 나자, 키퍼는 그것을 장난감들에게 먹이는 놀이를 시작했습니다. 하지만 콘플레이크, 토마토 소스, 우유, 잼, 설탕과 삶은 콩이 섞인 키퍼의 케이크를 장난감들에게 먹이는 놀이를 하기 위해 숟가락에 뜨는 것은 쉽지가 않았습니다. 특히 플라스틱으로 된 작은 숟가락을 쓸 때는 더욱 그렇습니다!
그때 엄마가 부엌으로 들어왔습니다.

Mum made Kipper sit on a stool while she washed his sticky face, his sticky hands, and his sticky legs. Then she washed the toys in the washing machine. Kipper was sorry. He hadn't meant to be naughty. He hadn't meant to make a mess.He felt sorry for his toys. Toys don't like being washed, especially in a washing machine. And they hate being hung up by their ears to dry

There were some baked beans in the fridge. They were in little plastic tub because some had been left over from the day before. ' I'll bet the toys would like some baked beans.' thought Kipper looking at his mixture.
By now he was enjoying himself so much that when he saw a packet of sugar in the cupboard, he couldn't help stirring in some of that as well.
' I'll put in some sugar,' he said. ' Toys like things to be sweet.'
So he put in sugar, he put in baked beans. Then he mixed them up with the milk and jam, the cornflakes, and the tomato sauce.
냉장고 안에는 삶은 콩이 약간 있었습니다. 전날 먹다 남은 것들이 남았었기 때문에 삶은 콩은 작은 플라스틱 통에 들어있었습니다. ‘장난감들이 삶은 콩도 좋아할꺼야,’ 라고 그의 케이크를 보면서 키퍼는 생각했습니다.
키퍼는 케이크 만드는 일에 너무 많이 집중해 있었기 때문에, 찬장에서 설탕 봉지를 발견하자 설탕도 붓지 않을 수가 없었습니다.
‘설탕도 약간 넣어야해,’ 키퍼가 중얼거렸습니다. ‘장난감들은 단 것을 좋아해.’ 그래서 키퍼는 설탕을 넣고 삶은 콩을 넣습니다. 그리고 키퍼는 우유와 잼, 콘플레이크, 그리고 토마토 소스와 함께 이것을 잘 섞습니다.

When everything was well mixed in, Kipper pretended to feed the mixture to some of his toys.It's not easy to give a mixture fo cornflakes, tomato sauce, milk , jam, sugar, and baked beans to some toys. Especially when you use a plastic spoon!
At that moment , Mum came into the kitchen.
When she saw the mess, you can guess what she said.
Mum was cross. she was very, very cross.
모든게 잘 섞여지고 나자, 키퍼는 그것을 장난감들에게 먹이는 놀이를 시작했습니다. 하지만 콘플레이크, 토마토 소스, 우유, 잼, 설탕과 삶은 콩이 섞인 키퍼의 케이크를 장난감들에게 먹이는 놀이를 하기 위해 숟가락에 뜨는 것은 쉽지가 않았습니다. 특히 플라스틱으로 된 작은 숟가락을 쓸 때는 더욱 그렇습니다!
