World Cup Goes to Spain

Spain made a new history by winning the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The Spaniards beat the Netherlands 1-0 with midfielder Andrea Iniesta¡¯s dramatic goal in the extra time. It was their first World Cup trophy ever.

The Dutch team also played a great game. Rather than getting afraid of the Spanish attack, they fought bravely in the midfield. However, Arjen Robben¡¯s mistake in the second half looked crucial. It was a painful defeat for the Dutch side who failed at the final games in 1974 and 1978.

The Spanish fans cried in joy. Over 200,000 fans gathered to watch the match on a big screen in the city center.

The road to the top was not that easy. Spain made a terrible start as it lost to Switzerland in the first game. It was a great shock to the team and the fans. However, the Spanish team got stronger and better as they played more games.

¡±It was a very difficult game but we have some fantastic players...,¡± Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said. ¡°We owe this to a great group of players.¡±
