Volunteer Works as Homework
Many students do volunteer works these days. There are students who do volunteer works because they want to. But, it is true that there are also students who do volunteer works because they have to do for school grades. Take a look at a talk here and think about it.
Hee-yeon: Hey, Mi-young, are you free this weekend? I am going to teach English to children who need help. I am also planning to play and have a good time with them. I need some help.
Mi-young: Sorry. I am planning to go shopping with my mom.
Eun-hee: I¡¯ll go with you, Hee-yeon. I think schools should make students do a lot of voluntary works. Otherwise, not many students would do enough voluntary works.
Hee-yeon: You have a point. But, I don¡¯t think that is right. Voluntary works can be meaningful only when you want to do them. Besides, if you do voluntary works only because your teacher tells you to do so, that will only be a waste of time.
Eun-hee: But some students might learn the meaning of volunteer works as they do them as homework. Also, you may do volunteer works together with your classmates or close friends.
Hee-yeon: But still, I think schools should not force students to do volunteer works. I saw many students who just spend their time not working hard and not doing many things. Only those who really want to do voluntary works should participate. Don? you think so?
Eun-hee: O.K. So, where and when should I meet you on Saturday? What should I prepare?
