Welcome Message
Greetings to all members and friends of KoreaTESOL.
The last ten years have seen great change in the practice of English language teaching, and in the theories underlying those practices. There has been an explosion in research, especially classroom-based research, which has in turn led to the development of new theories, which have in turn led to new practices in language classrooms. This change has happened all over the world, especially in Asia.
The responses to these changes have been varied. Some have embraced them with enthusiasm, incorporating them into their teaching and learning practices. Others have suggested that more radical changes need to be made, to maximize the chances for teaching and learning in the classroom. Still others have questioned the need to abandon older theories and practices, arguing that there is still much in them that deserve to be considered.
With this background in mind, KoreaTESOL looks forward to inviting teachers and researchers together on October 5th and 6th to consider these questions:
- How has recent research in English language teaching affected practices in the classroom?
- Which theories and practices can help language learners get the most from their language learning experience?
- Is it time for a radical re-thinking of how we approach teaching and learning in the classroom?
We will do this through presentations, roundtable discussions, and the inevitable get-togethers that occur at Conferences like this one. We will also listen to the reflections of leading teachers and researchers as they share their thoughts with us through Plenary and Featured presentations.
I hope you will join us at the 10th KoreaTESOL International Conference this year.
Best wishes,
Craig Bartlett
Chair, KoreaTESOL Conference Committee
