Mobile Phone USERS NUMBER 5 BILLION

The number of mobile phones in use worldwide has reached five billion. This is due to the rising demand in India and China, according to a report by Swedish telecoms company Ericsson.

The mobile phone market has increased almost seven times in ten years. ¡°In the year 2000, about 720 million people had used mobile phones. The number of mobile phone use increases by two million a day, largely thanks to emerging markets like India and China,¡± Ericsson said.

However, one person can have more than one mobile phone. Therefore, five billion mobile phones sold does not really mean five billion people own a mobile phone.

Ericsson also said about 80 percent of all people accessing the Internet will soon do so by a mobile phone.
