In our society, we have observed that people in every corner are talking about English, including me. We are eager enough to debate and learn something from other people's point of views. This makes English as one of the most intriguing issue, especially on this website.
We can see several remarkable screen names here.

These screen names have recommended some good English books and given helpful advices in teaching English without being paid at all (maybe).
In fact, the experiences that they have shared in educating their children are awfully helpful for those people who just become parents.
Anyways, the purpose of this writing is to discuss the following subject matters:
1) Many of us seem to be experts on English, however, in reality they do
not apply it as part of their communication.
2) Some of us usually underestimated the English skills of the non-native
speakers from India or the Philippines.
3) We can never be like the native speakers.

Since our society pays an overwhelming attention to English, many of us have been studying English for a long time and spending too much money on this. I don't have the right to generalize, but we must admit that until now most of us
are still very low. That's because we are too much interested in something 'about English', not 'in English', I think.
Outwardly, we all seem to be knowledgeable on English.
Let's say for example:
What are the rules of Phonics?
What are the good methods in teaching them for kids?
What English grammar book is better for EFL learners?
What is the best way in learning it?
What is the next level in English reading?
What is a better choice, intensive or extensive reading?
We have learned something from these questions since members of this site have been putting their different perspectives. I am also grateful for all those ideas and information.
I want to share an interesting story about one of my active students.
He is in grade four now.
One day, as soon as he came in, he said,
"Teacher, I am sad because I street ¾ÕÀ¸·Î ²Ê´ç, so my leg is very very ¾ÆÆÄ¿ä.
Or when he was asked "How are you?",
He said, "First, I am so-so. Second, I am good."
As we know, his answer is rather strange from the view of normal English expression. But I think it was a unique answer. He analyzed his feeling and separated it into so-so feeling and good feeling.
He answered unconsciously, like in Korean.
He doesn't hesitate to say anything in his own English way though his English words are mixed up with Korean.
When he plays with his friends, he often combines English & Korean words.
Of course, English teachers must not use this kind of English.
What I am trying to point out is that we should be confident enough in applying English into practice by merely using it comfortably. What we really need is the boy's Konglish, not saying something and knowledge about English.
But my point is that, why do we seem to laugh easily at Konglish mixed up with 70% of English and 30% of Korean, sometimes 50:50?
Albeit, we are certainly aware that we are using 100% Korean in discussing something about English. Isn't it ironic?
We just constantly argue and discuss a lot of things about how to improve our English skills, but we aren't putting it into practice. We have anxieties in using it as part of our communication such as in speaking and writing. Why is this so?
Are we afraid to be judged and laughed at by others? This is one of the reasons why I encouraged each one of you to write your comments in English. People who set an impossible goal such as being like an English native speaker ignore anyone else who says practical results-Konglish, and make him/her a joke of comedy shows.

My second topic deals with the non-native speakers' English from India or the Philippines. Frequently, we would like to take their English as a joke of some comedy shows. But we don't know on the other side that we are also the main actors of these comedy shows. Why? That's because we don't converse in English at all even though we love to say something about English.
It is such a sad comedy!
Let's look at first the real situation of our English skills before giving any judgments to the other non-native speakers' English skills.

Above all, we cannot be like the native speakers unless we either were born there or have lived there for a long time. Well, it is possible to copy their accent and pronunciation, but the fact is that, English is not our mother tongue. The result is that we only end up into fantasizing things. If we planned to be like them from the beginning of studying English, it would still be impossible in common circumstances in Korea even though we would wait until the East Sea is dry and M.t Baekdu is worn away.

I have waited for a week, and I really appreciate the two English comments in spite of my inordinate, irrational, and even sardonic writing.
One of the comments gave me some proper insights.
I want to say 'Thank you' to her again. (She seems to be a professor.)
Why have we seen only the two English comments for a week in spite of my asking? I know that there are many prominent people on this site who have great knowledge in English. So far they have written many supporting and opposite comments here. I thought at first that my writings were so controversial that I must have been at a loss if anyone would be brave enough to brought up a different opinion. But I am disappointed to know that only two persons made their English comments about this topic. I still feel something wanting because I am still eager to know your different English perspectives.
