1.His Life
1600 years ago, there lived a wild teenage boy in Ireland named Patrick. When he was 16, his town was invaded and he was captured and sold as a slave.

During this time he discovered God. Finally, 6 years later he escaped and spent his life telling people about God. He founded 165 churches and started a school with each one. He died on March 17 in 461 AD and the Irish made him a saint. So, March 17 became St. Patrick's Day.

2. History
About 1450 years later, St. Patrick's Day came to America. The first St. Patrick's Day celebration in America was in 1737 hosted by the Charitable Irish Society of Boston.

Nowadays, most people in the West don't even know Patrick's life story. But every March 17, Americans honor the green hills of Ireland where Patrick was born. And don't forget the best part - if you wear green on March 17, you can get all the kisses you want!

3.Good Luck
What's good luck on Saint Patrick's Day?
1. Finding a four-leafed clover (that's double the good luck it usually is).
2. Wearing green.(School children pinch classmates who don't wear green on this holiday).
3. Kissing the blarney stone. Kissing the stone is supposed to bring the kisser the gift of persuasive eloquence (blarney)."
