Here are some basic scoring rules for fencing.
Hope it will help understand what you see in the fencing match.

How is fencing scored?
Foil (Fleuret)
You can score with the tip of the weapon.
The blade does not count as a score.
The scoring zones are the main torso.

Epee
Points can only be scored by the point of the weapon hitting.
The entire body area is a valid target area.

Sabre
You can score with the edge of the blade.
The target area is from the waist up, but the hands are not included.
