Monday with a Mad Genius by Mary Pope Osborne is about a brother and sister named Jack and Annie going to Florence, Italy to help Leonardo da Vinci all day long, so they could find the second happiness for Merlin. First, they went to Florence, but they couldn’t find Leonardo. They used the Wand of Dianthus to find Leonardo. Then they met Leonardo and asked if they could help him. he said “Yes”. Then, he took them to a place he drew a fresco. The fresco didn’t dry, because Leonardo used a paint that doesn’t dry easily, which Leonardo invented. Leonardo tried to dry it by putting fire close to it, but it melted. Leonardo was disappointed and furious. So he went home, leaving Jack and Annie behind. When they went to Leonardo’s house, Leonardo shouted at them why they are there. But Annie helped him calm down. Then, he led them to his studio. Then, they talked about flying, and stuff like that. After that, Leonardo tried his ‘the great bird’. But he failed. So, Annie used the wand of Dianthus to make her, Jack and Leonardo fly like birds. Soon they flew across the sky. Then, they followed Leonardo going to draw Mona Lisa. Lisa didn’t smile because she was afraid if she smiled and da Vinci finished her picture, he would sell it to her family and never think of her again. However Leonardo promised that he would not sell her picture and always take it wherever he goes. So, Lisa smiled. Leonardo said to Jack and Annie that the secret of happiness is curiosity. After that, they went back to Frog Creek. That’s how the story ends. I love this story!
