주의: 우리말과 미국영어에서는 직접대화를 표시할 때 큰 따옴표 ( “ “ )를 쓰는데
영국영어는 직접대화에도 작은 따옴표 ( ‘ ‘ )를 선호한답니다.
저는 익숙한 방식으로 큰 따옴표를 썼습니다.
23 | Granny’s garden began to look more like it used to. | 할머니의 정원은 옛날 정원처럼 보이기 시작했다. like it used to = 옛날 한 때의 모양새/풍경처럼 |
26 | This is getting back to my old jungle garden. | 내 옛날 밀림정원으로 되돌아가고 있는 게야. |
28 | ~, so did the beetles and the butterflies. | =the beetles and the butterflies also returned. |
31 | newts | 도롱뇽과의 동물인데 우리말로 ‘영원’이라고 한답니다. |

문학작품을 읽고 그와 연계시켜 content area 학습을 하기도 합니다. 예를 들어 Nate the Great이 전형적으로 그렇습니다. 그 흉내를 내서 할머니의 정원에 있는 식물에 대해 알아봅시다. 식물 중 두 가지를 골라 백과사전이나 인터넷을 찾아 그림을 그리고 특성에 대해 쓰세요. 반드시 full sentence가 아니어도 됩니다. 주요 표현만 골라서 나열하세요. nettles를 샘플로 넣어놨습니다. 데이지와 민들레가 익숙하므로 그 두 가지를 선택하도록 유도하세요. |
