Greetings from North Carolina!
Our school year in North Carolina finishes in June. So I am now on my summer break.
After school ends, I like to go to the library and check out a big stack of books to read. I
checked out the Syd Hoff books to make worksheets for you. And I will read the books to my
grandchildren. It is so hot here that we like to stay inside during the day and read. I hope you enjoyed reading Barney’s Horse.
Syd Hoff liked to write about animals. Captain Cat is about a cat that joins the army. One
soldier is a good friend to the cat. While you read Captain Cat, look at the endings of the words. In English, we put an “s” on a word to mean more than one. For example, one cat, two cats. And also, think of these questions after you finish the book. Can animals join an army? What animals can an army use?
