Our next book is ¡°Danny and the Dinosaur.¡±It is a favorite book for many children.

And it was one of my favorite stories whenI was six years old, many years ago.

Danny is a boy who loves dinosaurs. Hegoes to a museum and sees dinosaurs.  

He wants to play with one.

Read the story and find out what Dannydoes with a dinosaur.

Look for these words in the story.

I¡¯m     let¡¯s       it¡¯s      he¡¯ll      that¡¯s     he¡¯s     there¡¯s   can¡¯t        I¡¯ve    

These words are called contractions. 

Theapostrophe ¡® is put in the place of a letter or letters.   

I¡¯m = I am          let¡¯s = let us            it¡¯s= it is               he¡¯ll= he will     that¡¯s = that is     

he¡¯s = he is      there¡¯s = there is     can¡¯t = cannot      I¡¯ve= I have

Think about these questions while you readthe story: 

Is the dinosaur real in the story or is Danny dreaming? 

What would you do with a dinosaur if it were real?
