Great Things to Be 활용법
1. 책의 이해
이 책에는 아이들이 좋아하는 스티커가 함께 들어 있습니다. 스티브와 블루의 친구들이 무엇이 되고 싶은가를 이야기 하면서, 각자에게 필요한 물건을 찾아 줄 것을 요구합니다. 그러면, 아이들이 들어있는 스티커에서 알맞은 것을 찾아 붙여주면 되는 것이지요. 그런데, 제가 아이와 함께 이 책을 읽다 보니, 아이가(특히 연령이 낮은 아이일수록) 스티커 붙이는 것만 좋아하고 정작 책 내용은 잘 듣지 않으려고 하더군요. 그래서 저는 스티커가 들어있는 비닐 백을 책에서 뜯어내고, 처음에는 스티커 없이 책만 읽어 주고, 아이가 책의 내용에 익숙해 진 후에 스티커를 내주었습니다. 이렇게 하니, 저도 책 읽어 주기가 수월하고, 아이도 내용에 맞는 스티커를 잘 찾아서 붙이더군요.
2. 책을 읽으면서 활용할 수 있는 예문
1) 겉표지
Do you know who she is? Yes, she is Blue.
누군지 알겠니? 그래 블루야.
What is she wearing?
블루가 뭘 입고 있니?
She is wearing a red hat and a red jacket.
블루가 빨간 모자와 빨간 겉옷을 입고 있구나.
Have you seen this outfit before?
전에 이런 옷을 본 적이 있니?
Yes, a fire fighter wears uniform like this.
그래, 소방수가 이런 제복을 입지.
And what else can you see on the cover?
그리고 겉표지에 뭐가 보이니?
We see a helmet for a football player, a hat for a police officer, a beret for an artist, two paintbrushes, a helmet for an architect, a stethoscope, a surgical mask and a hat for a chef.
미식축구 선수용 헬멧, 경찰관 모자, 미술가용 베레모, 붓 두 자루, 건축가용 헬멧, 청진기, 외과의사용 마스크, 주방장 모자가 보이네.
2) 첫째장
Who is he wearing green striped shirt? Yes, he is Steve.
초록색 줄무늬 셔츠를 입은 사람이 누구지? 그래 스티브야.
He\'s waving you hello.
스티브가 네게 안녕하면서 손을 흔들고 있네.
He says that he is being a reporter and all of other friends are being somebody today.
스티브가 오늘 자기는 리포터가 되고, 다른 친구들도 모두 다른 사람이 되려고 한대.
And Blue also wants to be somebody today.
그리고 블루도 역시 다른 사람이 되려고 한대.
But she won\'t say who she wants to be.
그렇지만, 블루는 자기가 뭐가 될 건지 안 알려준대.
Instead she will give us three clues to solve the problem.
대신에 블루는 우리가 문제를 풀 수 있도록 세가지 실마리를 준대.
Will you help Steve to find three clues what Blue wants to be?
블루가 뭐가 되고 싶은지, 세가지 실마리를 스티브가 찾을 수 있도록 도와줄래?
By the way, what are these? Yes, they are stickers.
그런데, 이게 뭐지? 그래 스티커구나
You like stickers very much.
너 스티커 무척 좋아하지.
You should find the right things for Steve and Blue\'s friends among these stickers.
네가 스티브와 블루의 친구들이 필요하다고 하는 것들을 이 스티커들 중에서 찾아주어야 돼.
Can you do it? Okay, off we go.
할 수 있겠니? 좋아 그럼 출발.
Steve says he is being a reporter today.
스티브가 자기가 오늘 리포터라고 하네.
Do you know who reporter is?
리포터가 무엇 하는 사람인지 아니?
A reporter is someone who finds out what is happening for a newspaper or television.
리포터는 신문이나 TV에 보도하기 위한 뉴스를 찾아 다니는 사람이야.
What do you think a reporter needs ?
리포터에게 뭐가 필요할 것 같니?
Yes, a microphone.
그래, 마이크야.
Can you find the microphone among these stickers?
이 스티커들 중에 마이크를 찾을 수 있겠니?
Yes, here it is.
그래, 여기 있구나.
Let\'s peel it off and stick it on the right place.
이것을 벗겨서 제자리에 붙여주자.
Well done.

Look who\'s here. It\'s Sidetable Drawer.
여기에 누가 있는지 보자. 사이드테이블이구나.
It is picking out a uniform. Will you help it to choose a uniform?
사이드테이블이 제복을 고르고 있구나. 네가 제복을 고르는 것을 도와줄래?
Okay, here are a hat and a badge for a police officer and a helmet for a firefighter.
좋아. 여기에 경찰관 모자와 배지가 있고, 소방수 헬멧이 있구나.
Let\'s put these stickers on Sidetable Drawer.
이 스티커들을 사이드테이블에게 붙여주자.
Oh, I think I saw our first clue. Do you see the first clue?
오, 내가 첫번째 실마리를 본 것 같아. 너도 보았니?
Yes, you\'ve found it. The first clue is on the pile of books.
그래, 네가 찾았구나. 첫번째 실마리가 책 더미 위에 있네.
Let\'s draw it on our handy-dandy notebook.
이것을 우리의 공책에 그려넣자.
2) 둘째장
What's Tickety doing? Yes, it is painting.
티키티가 무엇을 하고 있니? 그래, 그림을 그리고 있구나.
It is likely that Tickety is being a painter.
티키티는 화가가 되려고 하나봐.
What do you think Tickety is painting?
티키티가 무엇을 그리고 있을까?
Tickety is painting itself. We call it a self-portrait.
티키티가 자기 자신을 그리고 있네. 우리는 이런 그림을 자화상이라고 불러.
Look what Slippery is doing? It is making something out of the clay.
슬리퍼리는 뭘하는지 보자. 찰흙으로 뭔가를 만들고 있구나.
Will you help Slippery to make something cool out of the clay?
슬리퍼리가 찰흙으로 멋진 것을 만들 수 있도록 도와줄래?
Yes, find the right sticker and stick it for Slippery.
그래, 맞는 스티커를 찾아 슬리퍼리에게 붙여주자.
Baby bear is being a writer and wants to finish his story.
베이비 베어는 작가가 되려고 하네. 그리고, 이야기를 마무리 지으려고 해.
Let's help him to finish his story.
베이비 베어가 이야기를 끝낼 수 있도록 도와주자.
3) 셋째장
Who is Gingerbread girl being today?
진저브레드 소녀는 오늘 무엇이 되려는 걸까?
Yes, she is being a chef and wants to cook.
그래, 주방장이 되서 요리를 하고 싶어하네.
Let's help her to make something delicious.
그녀가 맛있는 것을 만들 수 있도록 도와주자.
What do you think she needs?
그녀에게 무엇이 필요할 것 같니?
First of all, put the chef\'s hat on her head, and give her some milk, a measuring cup, a bag of flour and some dough. .
먼저, 주방장 모자를 머리에 씌어주고, 그리고, 우유, 계량컵, 밀가루, 반죽을 주자.
What do you think she can make out of these?
이것들로 무엇을 만들 수 있을까?
Yes, she's made cupcakes and cookies.
그래, 컵케익과 쿠키를 만들었구나.
Look at Mr. Salt. He is being a waiter and going to take an order.
미스터 솔트를 봐. 그는 오늘 웨이터가 되려고 하고, 주문을 받으려고 하고 있어.
Let's give him cupcakes and cookies to serve.
그가 음식을 나를 수 있도록 컵케잌과 쿠키를 주자.
And Magenta is being a pastry maker. She is decorating cake with strawberry flavored cream.
마젠타는 케익장식가가 되었네. 딸기 맛 크림으로 케익을 장식하고 있어.
Here are Mrs. Pepper and her baby Paprika.
여기에 미세스 페퍼와 아기 파프리카가 있네.
She is holding blueprints and wearing a yellow helmet.
미세스 페퍼는 설계도를 들고 있고 노란 헬멧을 쓰고 있어.

Yes, a notebook and a pen.
Let\'s peel it off and put it on the right place.

4) 넷째장

미세스 페퍼는 건축가가 되려고 하나봐.

건축가가 무엇 하는 사람인지 아니?
An architect is a person who designs buildings.
건축가는 건물을 설계하는 사람을 말해.
Look at her design. It shows us how to build this house.
그녀의 설계도를 보자. 집을 어떻게 지을지를 보여주네.
Can you build a house according to Mrs. Pepper\'s design?
미세스 페퍼의 설계도에 따라 집을 지을 수 있겠니?
Builder Pail will help you.
건축기사 페일이 널 도와줄거야.
Let's find the sticker bricks and put them on the right places.
스티커 벽돌을 찾아서 제자리에 붙여보자.
Landscaper Shovel also needs your help to put more plants by the path.
정원사 쇼벨이 길가에 꽃나무를 심는데 역시 네 도움을 필요로 한대.

5) 다섯째장
Look at Blue. She is teaching Mailbox arithmetic.
블루 좀 봐. 블루가 메일박스에게 산수를 가르치고 있어.
There are two numbers and a sign on the blackboard.
숫자 2개와 무슨 사인이 칠판 위에 있네.
This is called addition.
이것을 덧셈이라고 불러.
Can you solve this problem?
이 문제를 풀 수 있겠니?
I know it might be very difficult for you.
너에게 너무 어렵다는 걸 알아.
I\'ll just let you know how to read this.
그저 어떻게 읽는 지만 알려줄게.
We read this equation like this, " three plus one equals ….".
이 식은 "삼 더하기 일은… " 이라고 읽어.
Who and what other things can you add to Blue's classroom?
블루의 교실에 더 덧붙일 사람이나 물건들이 있을까?
Yes, we need more students.
그래, 학생들이 좀 더 필요하구나.
How many seats in her classroom?
교실에 몇 개의 자리가 있니?
Let's count them. One, two, ….. seven.
한번 세보자. 하나, 둘, …. 일곱.
Good counting.
정말 잘 세는 구나.
Here are Blue's friends.
(스티커를 보여주며) 블루의 친구들이 여기 있네.

모두에게 각자 자리 하나씩을 주자.
