In 1896, the telephone was first introduced into the royal palace. That was the start of telephone communications in Korea.

The first telephone line for ordinary people was set up between Seoul and Incheon in 1902.

However, it was not until the beginning of 1960s when Korea first started producing telephones. The telephone model was called ¡°Chaesin No. 1.¡±

Until 1980s, the telecommunications industries did not develop much in Korea. There were only 71 telephones per 1,000 people in 1980.

But Korea¡¯s telecommunications industry developed fast. It has become one of the main industries in Korea.

As you know, Korea is now one of the most advanced countries in the world in telecommunications. Korean companies are world leaders in cell phone market. Not only Koreans but also many people around the world are using high-tech cell phones made by Korean companies these days.
