In Whitehorse, where I live, I have to wake up at 5 am to get dressed and hunt for my food before I go to school. I t is usually between 40 or 50 below. We live in igloos. How do we make them you ask? Well, we cut out snow blocks and stack them up about 6 blocks high in a circular shape. The seams are covered with snow for insulation. An opening is cut for the door. The temperature is usually between 40 and 60 below and the igloo keeps us very warm. After my breakfast of fried caribou I go to school. I have three dogs Spot, Max and Della, which I hitch up to a sled and they take me to school. Once I get to school we go in to our grade 4 igloo and we light our candles and stove. Then we sit on our rocks and do our math. We get out of school an hour early at 11:00, to catch our lunch which we cook over an open fire. When school is over we go home on our dog sleds and play games. After that we sometimes have to hunt for our supper and get firewood before it gets too dark. Yes it all happens in Whitehorse!
