1. During the trial Grigory said, "I am not a free man. If the gentleman wishes to make fun of me, I'll have to put up with it." What do you think of this?
2. 'A father has been killed and they pretend to be shocked. They're just putting on a show in front of one anther. Hypocrites!' This is part of what Ivan Fyodorovich said after he told the court that Smerdyakov was responsible for the murder. It might be hard to take in but I think there is hard truth in his statement. We weren't born with the knowledge of what is right and what is wrong. We learned right and wrong. In a sense, we really all are hypocrites. Well, that's my opinon, tell me yours.
A1 : I think it tells us that he is patient(Of course the fact that he raised so many children, though non of them his own, shows that already.) If someone was making fun of me,
I'd loose my temper at some point. I also find it curious what he said about his being
'not a free man'. Was he talking about god, that as god's loyal servant he could never be free?
Or that he court was holding him?
