오늘 완전 쑥쑥과 사랑에 빠졌나 봅니다. 제가 발견한 좋은 것들.. 느낌 마구마구 퍼주고 싶으니 말입니다.
초2인 1호 뿐 아니라 37개월된 저희 2호가 두돌때부터 푹... 빠져서 읇어대고 다니던 Ruth Heller 의 작품입니다. 『Chickens Aren't the Only Ones』 그외 그의 작품과 아마존 평 한번 살펴보세요.

2008. 7. 26 (37개월+) 독서일지 『Chickens Aren't the Only Ones』
Ruth Heller 이 작가를 주목해야 한다. 그림이 환상적일 뿐 아니라..... 이 책을 읽다보면 동물과 자연에 대해 저절로 이해하게 된다. 글도 아름다운 시처럼...... 입에 착착 붙는다. 그림과 글이 환상적인 조화를 이루어..... 다 읽고 나면 well made documentary 한편 본 것처럼 뿌듯하다.
이 책은 하프프라이스북에서 우연히 골라 주문한 책이다 2호가 아주 어려서부터 읽어줬다. 내용이 쉽지 않아 잘 안읽어줬는데 2호는 유독 이 책을 그렇게 좋아했다. 말도 제대로 못하는 두돌 지난 아이가 "치킨사 낫 디 온원 읽어자" 하면서 많이도 들어왔다.
그만큼 그림이 강렬하다! 두돌 된 아기가 더 잘 아는 것이다.
이 책은 페이지 하나하나를 다 사진으로 찍어 공개하고 싶을지경이다. 소장가치 높은 책이다.
자연관찰책이라면 이정도는 되어야 명함을 내밀수 있는 것 아닐까?
이 작가의 다른 책들도 사고 싶다.

A wonderful eggy book!,
Animals that lay eggs: a simple subject but a vital biology lesson for young and old alike. Beautiful illustrations drive the point clearly and allows a great deal of discussion to flow from each page. Go learn...this is a wonderful way to approach science!
Ultimate Egg Book,
With an elegant rhyming text and glorious full-page illustrations, this marvellous little book manages to convey it's information both succinctly and powerfully. Birds,snakes, lizards,crocodiles, turtles, dinosaurs, frogs, toads, salamanders, fish, seahorses, sharks, rays, snails, spiders, insects, and a couple of mammal-like critters all lay eggs. My Preschool and Kindergarten ESL students love it! I'd give it ten stars if I could.
Chickens Aren't the Only Ones,
Children will enjoy listening to you read this delightful book about egg-laying animals and their unique eggs. The colorful illustrations in this story are vivid and make the book come alive with fascinating detail. The words in rhyme tell this story in an informational, but highly interesting way that will attract children. They will want to read it again to be sure they do not miss any of the remarkable pictures this book offers. The pages about the octopus and insects are my most favorite because they tell their story in such a simple way. This book would be an excellent resource for children beginning to learn about egg-laying animals. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves great picture books.

저 멋모르고 그림에 반해서 샀다가 한글판도 샀어요. 한글판은 전집에 묶여서 재고도서 낱권으로 중고책 서점에서 샀어요. 그림 멋져서 서현이랑 가끔 본답니다. 영어 못하는 엄마는 이 멋진 책을 사놓고도 제대로 활용을 못했는데 정말 고맙습니다. 서현이는 이 책 보다 버섯은 꽃이 피지 않아요 좋아해요.
