Pat the Bunny는 제가 처음 접한 영어 책이면서 가장 정이 가는 책이에요. 작가 Dorothy Kunhardt가 자신의 아이들을 직접 관찰하며 영감을 얻어 쓴 책이라 더 엄마 마음에 와 닿는 거겠지요. 쑥쑥에서 이 책을 공구한지 세달이 넘었는데도 책 내용에 대한 번역 외에 달리 활용할 만한 내용은 소개되지 않아 제가 시도해봅니다. 페이지마다 짧지만 완전한 한 문장을 싣고 있어 아이에게 그 내용만을 읽어주셔도 좋지만 글만이 아닌 전체 그림을 볼 수 있으면 좋겠어요. 본문내용은 공구활용예문에 번역과 함께 실려있어 생략합니다.

Good! It's a shaving brush. Judy's Daddy is gonna put shaving cream on his face using this brush and shave himself.

읽을수록 재밌고 사랑스런 책이지요? 이 책 속에 나오는 토끼 쓰다듬어주기,까꿍놀이하기,꽃향기맡기,거울보기,수염난 아빠 얼굴 만지기, 책읽기, 엄마 반지 끼우기 외에 실제 우리아이들이 좋아하는 놀이가 많이 있으니 그걸 활용하셔도 좋아요. 예를 들어 강아지를 키우는 집
이라면 버니대신 'Now you pat the puppy.'라고 말해주실 수 있겠지요. 우리 아이가 평소에 즐겨하는 놀이나 행동 대 여섯 개를 담은 우리 애만의 책을 만들어보실 수도 있어요.
형규 can slide down the slide.
형규 can wear the blue shampoo cap.(우리 아이는 샴푸캡을 쓰고 머리감는 걸 좋아해요.)
